房屋系统
What is a 房屋系统 and Why is it Important?
STMA utilizes a House system to foster community across grades and allow students and mentor teachers to get to know each other and bond as they compete in house games, 比赛, 服务项目, and twice monthly meetings.
Developing authentic relationships is a key component in human formation. We believe that when students feel known and loved, they are more free to excel in all areas of their lives. Our House system plays a vital role in fostering these relationships between students and faculty members, thus giving the students the tools they need to succeed 学术ally, 精神上, 身体上的, and emotionally during their time at STMA and into the college years.
它是如何工作的?
- Each student is sorted into our House system at the beginning of the 9th grade year (middle school students do not participate in the House system)
- There are four Houses: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
- Each House is further divided into three Households per House (siblings are placed in the same House, but not necessarily in the same Household)
- There are approximately 15 students across grades 9-12 in each Household (about 45 students per House)
- Each Household is led by a faculty member, who also acts as a mentor to the students in their Household
- Households meet twice per month
- House 比赛 (which can include sporting events, debate, spelling bees, trivia, games, etc.) occur at least monthly and are quite popular amongst the students!
- Students remain in the same House for all four years
Goals of the 房屋系统
- Foster and strengthen STMA community spirit within and outside of our campus
- Enhance the spiritual formation of each student by embracing our Catholic faith and traditions
- Ensure individual care by providing each student with a faculty mentor who monitors and supports the spiritual, 学术, 社会, and emotional formation of each student
- Create opportunities for upperclassmen students to act as leaders and mentors for the underclassmen students
- Develop each student's interpersonal relationship skills, both with adults and with other students
